| Description | Nanodiscs are artificially constructed lipoprotein complexes that mimic the lipid bilayer environment found in natural cell membranes. Composed of a phospholipid bilayer encircled by amphipathic membrane scaffold proteins (MSPs), they form a discoidal structure. This design enables stable encapsulation of membrane proteins or lipid-associated antigens, preserving their native conformation and biological activity, while also providing good water solubility and monodispersity. Nanodiscs are widely used in membrane protein functional studies, vaccine development, drug delivery, and antigen presentation. |
